SWNB History

SWNB was started by Carol Gray, Marlene Bray-Trewin and Joanne Cochrane. With the addition of Joan Pumphrey, they began meeting regularly to give and get support from other women working on their own and to promote their services and products through networking.

In March 1996, it started as a luncheon group with 12 women attending their first meeting. Then by September of 1996, it became officially a breakfast group with monthly meetings. We are now over 75 members.

The group includes many talented and knowledgeable women from a vast area of businesses: health & wellness, fashion, cosmetics, kitchen tools, counseling, decorating, writing, astrology, advertising, real estate, investments, accounting, printing, travel, just to name a few.

The group has grown tremendously and the area around has benefited as well. Our charitable donations have included Community Care, Oshawa-Durham Rape Crisis Centre, Hospital Auxiliary, the Canine Unit, North House, Operation Scugog Food Bank, the Children’s Wish Foundation, Big Brothers / Big Sisters, and the Help to Hear fund. We consider the needs of women when making these and future donations in the Scugog area.

We will continue to grow and prosper with commitment from our members. Being a member gives women the opportunity to develop skills, form friendships, and establish a support network for personal and career development.

The power of working together far exceeds the power of working alone.
